Chiropractors Steph + Drew welcome you to their first blog post.

HERE WE GO…OUR FIRST BLOG POST!

We started a blog, our little labour of love and here we are with our first blog post!

Partners in Practice was an idea formed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our plans to open up a practice straight out of chiropractic school came to a screeching halt, as did everything else.  Was this real life?!

No one knew what was going on or what the future would look like, we were (and still are) in unprecedented times.  What we did know was that we weren’t going to give up on our plans or our dream to build a practice together.  It was just going to look a little different than expected.  With our timelines pushed back a few months, we thought to ourselves, why don’t we share what we’re doing?

START WITH WHY

Have you been asked the question, “What’s your Why?”

Well, our why, to our core as business owners, practitioners, and most importantly as humans is to:

“Elevate community through education and empowerment.”

This is our why.

HOW DOES A BLOG FIT INTO THIS “WHY“?

As new grads and soon-to-be young health professionals, getting into practice ownership and operations was not something we were well-prepared for in our prior years of studying.  Don’t get us wrong, we have a solid foundation to be competent, evidence-based, compassionate chiropractors but our business foundations were not quite up to par. We knew going into this it wasn’t going to be easy. It would require us to be resourceful, and would have to work through the discomfort of the unfamiliar. We also knew we weren’t the only ones in this boat, so we figured we should share this with others on a similar journey.

WHO IS THE BLOG FOR?

This blog is not just for chiropractors but also for our fellow health care professionals like physiotherapists, massage therapists, nutritionists, dentists, naturopaths, etc. Essentially, anyone interested in starting their own practice. Through sharing our personal experience, we hope to show other students and/or new grads that this is an attainable goal.  Of course, that is our aim and yes, we have yet to attain this goal but the process that we are currently going through is arguably the most important part.  We want to show you the steps we have taken to get to where we are and how they will take us to where we want to go.

This blog is also for our supportive friends and family who are our biggest cheerleaders. We hope to keep weekly updates of our progress as we navigate the uncharted waters to the life, clinic, and business of our dreams.

IT IS OK TO DREAM BIG

Have you ever canceled a dream or an idea just because of something some someone told you?  Unfortunately, there wasn’t much in school regarding opening and running a practice. It’s almost assumed post-grad, we become an associate and work for someone else.  Of course, there is NOTHING wrong with this option. But we know many who have gone into school with a dream of owning a practice *one day* which unfortunately fades away due to lack of encouragement.

To be honest we were there; naive, bright-eyed, and bushy-tailed ready to take on whatever came our way.  But somehow, we got to a point where we didn’t think this was even a possibility of ours, especially as new grads?!  Instead of letting the nay-sayers influence our future, we started listening to the yay-sayers (maybe still a bit naive) and went for it.

BACK TO OUR WHY

If you have EVER thought of pursuing a big dream, whether that be an entrepreneurial venture or moving across the country, we want to be your YAY-sayers. We want to be the mentors we so wanted/needed when we were students.  Through sharing our experiences, we hope to EMPOWER you to go after whatever it is that you want.

This is us, two young health care entrepreneurs doing the dang thing, mixed with positivity, motivation, and MF realness.

Thank you for reading our very first blog post, we hope to see you soon.

Welcome, to the Partners in Practice blog.
